Why is most award-winning audio mixed analog?
Common digital specification is 24 Bit/96 kHz. 24 Bit provides sufficient dynamic resolution, but in mixing, 96 kHz is far from being sufficient on the time scale. A resolution adequate to our hearing capabilities would require sample rates of around 500 kHz. Therefore, those small signal structures carrying spatial and localizational information are lost in digital mixing – while analog equipment overshoots these demands.
