MOTU Firewire/USB Driver

Great to be able to download these free software updates

I think it's great that MOTU are still supporting discontinued gear, unlike most manufacturers. Plus it's hard to take criticism from someone who can't spell, must be a real "pro."
In fact I bought an 828mkII and chain them both together! If it doesn't work for you sell it and move on, works great for me.

Still cant get multiple firewire devcies chained together along with the Motu. A texas instruments chipset is supposedly required for daisychaing firewire devices whihc is all ver well if you use a standard sized PC or Mac. However as far as I know there is no substitute availabel for Powerbook laptops.
Apart from the eobvious and deliberate omission from Motus literature regarding the non functioning daisy chainig of multiple firewire devices the interface itself has been generally error free. Most errors I have encountered have been due to user error.
Sound quality is good but not on a par with apogee or Prism interfaces. But considering the price of the Motu and the overwhelming features the interface its probably the best buy on the market at the time of writing this.
All in all I would recommend this interface for semi pro producers and engineers. The sheer amount of inputs and outputs which consist of twelve inputs and 10 outputs means that those unexpected situation that always arise can usually be accomodated.
One last thing that should be mentioned is the routing os terribly convulted. For example output one an two are actually output three and four and this whatever way i look at it is an undesirable and perhaps amateur and ill thought out design.
still, its a good buy and interface like this only two or three years agoo woul dhave cost upwards of $3500. Thesedays it can be snapped up for around $750
