Ardour comprend : L'enregistrement multi-pistes, non linéaire, édition non destructive, automation totale, une console de mixage équipée comme du matériel hardware, de nombreux plug-ins contrôlables en hardware. Bref, il remplit des fonctions similaires à ProTools, Nuendo, Cubase SX, Digital Performer, Samplitude ou Sequoia.
