Altiverb Version 4: Major Upgrade for Mac Reverb King

Thursday May 20, 2004. 04:46 AM, by OUNZ Plug-ins > Audio Ease
Plug-ins : Altiverb Version 4: Major Upgrade for Mac Reverb King - macmusicAudio Ease has released Altiverb 4.0, a major update to their convolution reverb plug-in. Altiverb Version 4 provides tail lengths of 15 seconds and more, multi-channel surround processing, ultra-low latency, and most importantly, a 3x increase in G5 processor efficiency, and a nearly 2X increase in G4 processor eficiency. In a 48 kHz session on a single processor G5, you can run 8 full stereo Altiverbs with 6-second reverb tails.

Also new in version 4 is a tone control that affects only the reverb, not the dry signal, designed to meet a set of creiteria. It should freshen up or take out just a little off the low end of the reverb while leaving the main character of a room intact. It should work well on broadband audio (i.e. on multiple instruments simultaneously) and should be subtle in its adjustments, never making a room sound unnatural. Finally and importantly it should never turn phase more than 90 degrees. This is to prevent (audible) cancelation of certain frequencies, when dry is mixed with wet signal. After reviewing several options, Audio East selected the classic 1950's Baxandall EQ.

A frequently-requested feature now standard in Altiverb 4 is the ability to use automation to switch Impulse Responses while a project is playing. You can make a complete setting, including Impulse Responses, EQ, reverb length wet dry mix etc, and store a snapshot of it. The snapshot itself is an automatable parameter. This means you can either simply record snapshot switches in your sequencer or ProTools, or you can insert snapshot recalls by graphically editing automation data.
hoosing the right acoustic space for your project is critical. That's why Altiverb delivers the widest selection of acoustic spaces by far, plus more choices within each space. And new Impulse Responses are available for free download every month.

Altiverb v4 is a US$99 upgrade to the Audio Unit, and OSX versions of VST, HTDM, RTAS and MAS plug-ins.

Altiverb and its downloadable demos are available from www.audioease.com. The Audio Ease on-line store price is US$495.00 for the MAS-VST-RTAS-Audio Unit bundle. The HTDM-RTAS-MAS-VST-Audio Unit Bundle costs US$795.00
