Platinum Samples is excited to announce the immediate release of Evil Joe Barresi's Glamouflage Kit QuickPack for BFD.
Tracked by Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age, Bad Religion, Weezer, etc...) on a Neve 8028 console to analog 2" tape at the legendary Sound City Studios (Nirvana, Foo Fighters, NIN, Rage Against The Machine, Tool), the drums have been taken to the next level and have been fully mix processed without losing any velocity layers or resolution. Joe has EQ'd, compressed and performed his magic using the same console and equipment he uses when mixing. In addition, Joe patched the Kick and Snare though his classic Helios console - both through the Line Inputs to give them added warmth, and through the Mic Inputs to give a modern distorted option, offering a total of three wicked choices for the Kick and Snare. The Glamouflage Kit QuickPack also includes well over 1,200 new grooves in both BFD2 and BFD 1.5 format.
The Glamouflage Kit QuickPack is available now for $89.99.
KRK Systems has just launched an updated version of its 10" recording subwoofer. The new KRK10s incorporates a sleek industrial design that matches the company's recently launched RokitG2 monitors, as well as significant feature enhancements.
The industrial design of the KRK10s leverages KRK's research and development into baffle design and fabrication. The subwoofer's curved front matches the Rokit and VXT monitors' diffraction reducing shape. It is also a great addition to other active or passive monitor setups, thanks to its integrated, adjustable crossover and numerous back-panel connection options.
Additionally, updated electronics include a ground-lift switch for combating less than perfect electrical and audio grounding and a bypass footswitch that allows the subwoofer and crossover to be easily enabled and disabled. The bypass footswitch allows users to easily switch a mix from stereo or 2.1/5.1 sound environments. Improved amplifier heat sinking results in lower distortion at high power levels and the KRK10s has a lower noise floor than its predecessor.
The KRK10s replaces the existing RP10s subwoofer. The new KRK10s is priced at $399, and is available now at leading music retailers around the world.

Artificial Audio unveils Obelisk, a new spectral multi-effect that combines a Spectral Delay, a Spectral Filter and a Spectral Gate together with a Spectrum Analyzer and 2-Dimensional LFOs to modulate the effect settings.
Obelisk separates the incoming audio signal into frequency bands. Each frequency band has its own Delay with Feedback, its own Filter and its own Gate. By simply drawing "effect lines" into the Analyzer Point View, hundreds of parameters can be controlled very easily and intuitively. Obelisk has three 2-Dimensional LFOs to modulate the effect parameters in ever changing and totally new ways.
Obelisk will be available in September 2008 for Mac OS X in VST and AU plug-in formats at a price of €99.

In this interview, Carl Beatty, a veteran engineer and Professor of Production and Engineering at Berklee College of Music, discusses how the era of digital recording, with its presets, wizards and unlimited tracks, encourages novice engineers and producers to get lazy about capturing performances that are musical and tight enough for the final mix. He also describes how people who are serious about their recording careers can re-visit the studio techniques of the analog age to learn some recording best practices that work equally well in an analog studio as on a home ProTools setup.
Today Antares announces the release of Auto-Tune Evo, the brand new version of their famous pitch correcting plug-in.
Like previous versions, Auto-Tune Evo provides the ability to correct the pitch of a voice or solo instrument in real time, without distortion or artifacts, while preserving all of the expressive nuance of the original performance. In the meantime, Antares' Dr. Andy has gone back to the proverbial drawing board to create a seriously evolved voice processing technology that takes advantage of the hugely more powerful computers that are now the norm for digital audio recording.
The result is Evo Voice Processing Technology, offering powerful new features and capabilities along with pitch detection and correction that is substantially more accurate and reliable over a mu ...
ManyTone Music has just released Manytone Fretless Bass, a comprehensive sample library of a 4-string fretless precision bass available now in multiple formats.
The extensive soundsets cover a variety of articulations which take advantage of the fretless nature of the instrument. Manytone has sampled the distinctive sound of vibrato as well as various increments and speeds of bends. The staccato samples allow the sample library to encompass faster, more upbeat styles of music as well. Also these staccato samples, as well as the sustained tones, were sampled with both index and middle fingers, so the machine-gun effect of repeating notes may be easily avoided.
The Manytone Fretless Bass was sampled completely dry, giving you the flexibility to shape the tone to your taste from a neutral DI tone (Direct Injected).
This library is available in various formats including ManyTone Instruments, Wusik, Kontakt, Cakewalk Dimension (sfz), and Soundfont. The Fretless Bass library is presently available for an introductory price of $49.95 for single format (single choice of one of the formats listed above) or $59.95 for multi format (Any, or all, of the formats).

Many years ago, Brian Eno popularised the term "generative music" to describe music that is ever-different and changing, and that is created by a system. Let me introduce you to Nodal, a generative software application for composing music designed by Peter Mcilwain.
Nodal uses a novel method for the notation and playing of MIDI based music. This method is based around the concept of a user-defined graph. The graph consists of nodes (musical events) and edges (connections between events). You interactively define the graph, which is then traversed by any number of players who play the musical events as they encounter them on the graph. The time taken to travel from one node to another is based on the length of the edges that connect the nodes.
