Ableton today announced the imminent release of Live 5.2 and the release of Live 6 in Q3. Both releases leverage new processor technologies to provide Live users with significant gains in audio performance (such as the capacity to simultaneously run more tracks, virtual instruments, and effects). Live 5.2 brings native support for Apple's new Intel-Macs. Live 5.2 will be in beta as soon as the new Intel Core Duo equipped MacBook Pro is available and is expected to be released in February. Early MacBook Pro buyers will be able to run Live immediately and enjoy substantially higher audio performance than on today's fastest Mac notebook. Live 6, scheduled for release in Q3, will bring—among other features yet to be disclosed—support for multicore/multiprocessor architectures.
Live 5.2 for Mac-Intel will be available for 49 USD/39 EUR.
Steinberg today announced its commitment to developing its audio software products such as Cubase and Nuendo for the latest generation of Intel-based Macintosh computers. Steinberg has already engineered test versions of its Cubase and Nuendo host applications for the new platform ahead of a future commercial release for the
Mac/Intel versions.
Roland corporation announces the support for new Intel-based Macintosh computers. New Roland drivers are now on the test phase and will be available very soon. Please note that FireWire drivers for Edirol FA-66 and FA-101 are already compatible with new iMacs and Mac Book Pro.
Future Retro, of 777 analogue groovebox fame, launch a 3U rack: the XS. It's a semi-modular analogue monosynth. As all semi-modulars it's prepatched so can be used a your regular growling box, but bring the cables and patch it and you can explore further or even expand an existing system. It's a CV/gate V/Oct standard synth so it will work with MIDI2CV interfaces or analogue sequencers like a good boy (Is he one? Given Future Retro, I expect a box making some big noise ;)

Steinberg today presented the new version of its Virtual Guitarist software product at the Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California. Offering a full 6.8 GB of authentic, editable riffs, parts and licks in 88 musical styles, offering a staggering total of nearly 1100 different parts across 88 styles including pop, rock, metal, reggae and country to name but a few. Virtual Guitarist 2 offers a complete computer-based instrument that creates realistic electric and acoustic rhythm guitar parts from scratch. The new Part Editor allows full editing control over every single Virtual Guitarist 2 phrase. Each chord is broken up into slices, which the user can manipulate as desired.

Cakewalk has announced the release of Rapture, a new wavetable synthesizer designed to produce pop, dance and electronic sounds. Rapture combines an advanced modulation system with an non-aliasing wavetable resampling engine. It features 40 Envelope Generators, LFOs, and Step Generators per patch, and comes with more than 500 programs including Basses, Leads, Pads, Arpeggios, Textures, Electronic Percussion and Sequences.
Rapture will be available in February (AU, RTAS, VST) for $199.
Clavia released the V. 1.40 of the editor of his G2 synthesizer family. It's packed with: another color scheme possible for coloured impaired persons, a Patch Adjuster which is changing parameters in a patch at a global level, a Patch Mutator which is using interactive evolution to alter settings. Now when you drag a patch cord near the window edge, scrolling will occur, and the "z" key will display the last played note.

MakeMusic announced that its famous music notation software Finale will support new Apple Intel-based Mac computers. The next version of Finale will be available as a Universal Binary version, running natively on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs.
There is no release date of this upcoming binary version.
URS announces Everything EQ Bundle v5.0. The upgraded URS EQ Bundle features two new EQ plug-ins and sonic enhancements for TDM users to the eight existing EQ's. The two new seven band fully parametric equalizer plug-ins are the A-MIX and the N-MIX. The Everything EQ Bundle v5.0 upgrade is free for all registered Everything EQ Bundle v4.0 owners. On the other hand, URS also updated Classic Console EQ Bundle to version 2.0 which now includes four plug-ins: URS A series EQ and URS N series EQ and the new URS A MIX EQ and URS N MIX EQ. IK Multimedia introduces for the NAMM show 2006 the StealthPlug powered by AmpliTube, a cable-like USB audio card designed specifically for guitarists. Today at NAMM, Apogee Electronics Corporation (booth 6428) unveiled Symphony, a multi-channel PCI Express card designed specifically for use with Apple's Macintosh computers. Apogee's Symphony PCI Express card is a digital computer interface that is based on the PCI-Express architecture in Apple's PowerMac G5 computers. Controlled by Apogee's Maestro software, Symphony features 32 channels of digital I/O on a single PCI-Express card format. With support for sample rates up to 192 kHz, Symphony can be used as a digital router or patch-bay when connected to external converters or other digital outboard equipment.

Intel-based iMac and MacBook Pro can be happy. Roland, BOSS, EDIROL have prepared drivers for Intel based Macs. Roland drivers are in the final stages of qualification on iMacs and MacBooks and will be available as soon as they are polished. Firewire audio class drivers for EDIROL FA-66 and FA-101, along with USB mass storage drivers used for Fantom-x and other Roland, BOSS and EDIROL products are already included and fully compatible with the new macs.
Cycling '74 today announced revision software 1.3 for the JazzMutant Lemur Multi-touch control surface. New software features in version 1.3 allow the Lemur to be reconfigured in powerful ways from a host computer via the OSC (Open Sound Control) protocol. The Lemur is a hardware controller for new media applications featuring a proprietary LCD touch screen for which users create their own user interfaces. The Lemur sends OSC messages to a host computer over 100-base T Ethernet. The new version 1.3 software expands the repertoire of OSC commands the host computer can send back to the Lemur, allowing any of the eight types of user interface objects to be changed on the fly. This allows the Lemur to be used both as a controller and a status monitor.
The forthcoming update will be available via download for all current Lemur customers.
In less than 24 hours, the winter NAMM will open at the Convention Centre in Anaheim, California. The prestigious NAMM Show will gather over 1,400 exhibitors from 19-22 January, they will undoubtedly be very keen to unveil their lastest items to a public made of musicians and visitors growing more and more avid for innovations. As usual, the whole MacMusic team will take it in turns to cover this event, in real time or so this year with our team on the spot.

In this report, we will try to gather all information about audio software compatible with the new Intel based macintosh. Indeed, software need to be recompiled as Universal Binaries, to support both PPC and Intel processors.

Celemony announced Universal Binary versions for all Melodyne products. New version 1.5 for Melodyne Uno and Melodyne essential will be released at the end of January, and Melodyne Cre8 and studio will be updated to version 3.1 in spring 2006. These new versions will be of course compatible with new Intel Core Duo processors based Macintoshes.
These updated versions will be available for free for resistered Melodyne users
Audio Damage release Phase Two plugin, a recreation of the Mutron Bi-Phase vintage phaser unit. Phase Two features two separately controllable phasers, and like the original unit, these two phasers can be routed in series or parallel, for everything from subtle stereo washes to full-blown alien attack. Using the extra CC feature, which takes the place of the "Opti-Pedal" in the original unit, you can manually sweep the phaser frequencies with a MIDI controller, such as a mod wheel or aftertouch.
Phase Two is available as an AU/VST effect for Mac OS X and costs $49 (download version).
Green Oak announces an update to version 2.4.9c for Crystal, in order to add support for new Intel-based Macs. Crystal is a semi-modular software synthesizer featuring both subtractive synthesis and frequency modulation (FM) synthesis. It offers abundant modulation control with over 60 parameters which may be modulated, multi-stage envelopes with graphical editors, extensive tempo sync of envelopes/lforates/delay times, built-in effects for chorus/flanging/comb filtering/echoes, and a band splitter for effects processing by frequency band.
Native Instruments today announced its development plans regarding the newly announced Intel-based Macintosh computers. The company welcomes Apple's move towards new, powerful processor technology and is already working on enabling its products for use on the upcoming iMac and MacBook Pro computers. As part of Native Instruments' commitment to the new platform, all future product releases will include "Universal" versions that will take full advantage of the new Intel-Mac platform while maintaining compatibility with PowerPC-based Macintosh computers.
Existing NI products will be updated to support Intel-based Macs within 2006. Updates will come in the form of either a dedicated Intel-Mac update that will be made available for a small fee, or as part of a major product update for all platforms.
