MP3 Trimmer is a mp3 files editor which lets you cut off portions of MP3 files, fast and easy, without re-encoding. You can then save them as new MP3's, always leaving your original files intact. Dropsound is a sound-playing app, made for digital music-makers (and co-developed by one). It is an attempt to fill the void left by SoundApp, which did not move on to Mac OS X along with everyone who used it. This 2.80 release features : a problem that prevented continuous playing and "quit when done" is solved. Dropping a folder works again. Several code simplifications. And note that OS 9 support is gone.

This update features : All formats had a problem with some IRs loading extremely slow, AudioUnit now uses latency compensation to accommodate more flexible audio driver settings. Note that the high latency mode is not compensated, but in low latency mode you can now set your 'process buffer range' to large to save CPU bandwidth, AudioUnit publishes its parameters to the host, so Logic's 'Control' view can be used, AudioUnit can do mono-mono again, MAS has full blown latency compensation support. When switching from low to high latency or from high to low Digital Performer's transport must be stopped for the new latency to be correctly compensated, MAS bypass automation fixed, RTAS redraw glitch when recording automation fixed.

M-Audio has announced the availability of the new Keystation 88es, a USB MIDI keyboard controller with 88 semi-weighted and velocity-sensitive keys. The unit incorporates a built-in USB MIDI interface, a separate MIDI Out jack for controlling MIDI hardware, pitch bend and modulation wheels, an assignable volume/control slider, sustain and expression pedal inputs. This unit is USB bus powered.

It now features : Audio Unit plug-in now pass the Logic 7 validation, MIDI program changes work in Pro Tools and in Cubase, the Ultra Analog VST plug-in now works in Orion, there is no more noise or stuck notes when changing presets while playing, there is no more portamento effect when playing the first notes of a newly loaded preset, the manual has been updated, corrected a problem with the Locate command and effect presets now load correctly in the RTAS version.
Focusrite d2 v2.2.1/d2 v2.2 is now available for download. The d2 EQ graph has been updated for better response when editing EQ parameters from a control surface.
Delaydots has now combined two of their plug-in bundles, the Sound Designers Pack and Spectral Pack, into a single bundle, the Sound designers-Spectral Suite, now available in VST for Mac OS X. This suite now features five plugins : Spectral Morpher, bass exciter Phat, Phat Pro, PitchShift multiband and daBomb distortion device.

The Pro Tools TDM 6.4.1cs2 Update for Pro Tools|24 MIX Systems with Pro Tools 6.4.1 on Mac OS X is now available for download. Pro Tools TDM 6.4.1cs2 fixes :using a surround mixer in certain configurations would cause inconsistent automation playback and/or audio distortion and corrupted preferences.

Version 2.0 of SoundFont Synth has been released. SoundFont Synth is an Audio Unit plug-in synthesizer which is compatible with most modern music production packages such as Logic 7, Digital Performer, GarageBand etc. Version 2.0 includes an option to use the Pitch Bend wheel on your keyboard to control a low-pass, high-pass, band-pass or notch filter. A Spanish version is also now available.
Apple Computer is expected to introduce a new audio interface for GarageBand users in the coming months. The analog FireWire audio device, the first product of its recently created iPod division, will allow users to directly record audio using any Mac and Apple's GarageBand music studio application. According to reputable sources, the company is on track to begin manufacturing the device overseas next month. According to sources, "Asteroid" (code name for this project) will include two XLR/ TRS audio input connectors, two RCA analog output jacks, and a standard headphone jack. The device will draw power through a single FireWire 400 port and include a phantom on/off power switch.
The device will retail for approximately $140 - $149 and will aggressively target similar products such as M-Audio's Mobile Pre and Edirol's UA-5 USB Digital Audio Capture device.
