There's a (pleasant) rumour going round about Digidesign and G5 ... The G5 family (1.6-GHz, 1.8-GHz, 2.0-GHz) would support Digi 002, Digi 002 Rack and mBox.
A ProTools LE update will be necessary, particularly for OS 10.3 Panther compatibility. This major update should be available in mid-november 2003. It will be free for PT LE 6.1 and 6.1.1 users. To be continued ...
Sibelius has introduced Sibelius 3, a major upgrade to the music notation software. We'll offer an exclusive look at this new release soon, but in the meantime, here's an overview of new features.
170 new features have been added, plus a special collaboration with Native Instruments to design a special version of Kontakt to play back music using high-quality instrument samples (no more cheap-sounding QuickTime Musical Instruments!), burn compositions to CD, and create audio files for the Web. Here are a few of the more interesting enhancements:
Font smoothing Mac OS X's font smoothing already made Sibelius for OS X look substantially better than OS 9 versions of Sibelius and Finale, but a new display setting will smooth all graphical elements on the screen for a look closer to ...

M-Audio came to Paris Expo to showcase its new audio card line, now optimised for the Power Mac G5. They've worked closely with Apple to ensure that all its new PCI cards were optimised to take advantage of the Power Mac G5's architecture. Roger Linn has announced the AdrenaLinn II. It's easiest to just say that the new model has more of everything offered in the original AdrenaLinn. The new Adrenalinn II is $495, while an upgrade for AdrenaLinn I owners is available through Roger Linn's online store for only US$99 US/Canada; $135 for Europe. (We should tell Roger that the UK is in Europe regarding this line on the online shop).
Ed: Thanks, lpm. For those of you not familiar with the AdrenaLinn, it's a hardware effects processor for keyboards, bass, and guitars, with beat-synced filter effects, amp modeling, and a built-in drum machine. And yes, the new version has, well, more of what the first one had. -PK
Arkaos VJ, the live performance video art / VJ software, has added numerous features in a free 3.0.1 upgrade. (Sounds like at least a "3.1" to me!) The upgrade features enhanced Velocity Engine optimization for Blitters, Filters, and Infinite Zoom, plus multiple language support with Spanish, Italian, German, and, yes, French! Most interesting, though, is a new ASCII art / pixelization effect. (Yes, you heard that right: ASCII text art effects! That's got to be worth at least a version 3.1.)
Tascam has made another completely mad product: the SX-1 LE, a limited (hey, Digi, look what others call limited) version of the SX-1, their all-in-one DAW production engine.
This new version brings a lift to the cosmetic and functional side of the program's interface. This software is constantly evolving. Anyone interested in sequencing and fine-tuned loops should have a go at it.
From our friends from EX5T, we learn that if you are the lucky owner of an Evolver, the new OS 1.5 in beta will be available to the public for testing. The beta is backward compatible, so no changes to old patches already in the beast.
Also, Dave Smith has made it quasi-official that he is working on a new polysynth. Admirers of Prophet 5s, VSs and other Wavestations will be in paradise :)
